Tyrewise project progresses

Tyrewise Working Group members have been advised by the Ministry for the Environment that they are progressing assessment of the Tyrewise application for product stewardship accreditation under the Waste Minimisation Act 2008 (WMA).

“While the regulatory framework for the proposed stewardship programme requested by the Group is absent, this is another positive step in establishing a meaningful solution for End of Life Tyres in New Zealand,” says Working Group Chair Mark Gilbert.

According to Gilbert, members of the working party, Auto Stewardship NZ, and 3R Group will all participate in the audit.

Project manager 3R Group have had previous experience with the accreditation process through Agrecovery Rural Recycling, Resene PaintWise and Inzide Commercial, all of which are accredited product stewardship programmes.

“It is a very collaborative investigative process and all participants can learn a great deal simply by participating in the audit,” says CEO Adele Rose.

“We’re looking forward to participating and making further progress toward a Tyrewise Product Stewardship programme.”
