WHAT THEY DO
FlexiPlay manufactures indoor and outdoor flooring systems for sports, playgrounds and leisure, and decorative applications.
They use exclusively New Zealand-sourced recycled rubber from Tyrewise registered processing partners to make the shock pad layer of their playground and athletic surface installations.
This layer can be recycled at the end of its life, giving the recycled tyres another go around. The top layer uses EPDM – a colourful, porous, UV-stable, synthetic rubber.
Currently, FlexiPlay uses some 60 tonnes of tyre material a year, with plans to increase to 90 tonnes. They are also investigating the use of recycled rubber in athletic tracks, which has the potential to greatly increase the tonnage of recycled material used.
“Local access and supply is really critical for us. The ability to order from New Zealand sources rather than rely on international shipping logistics means we can access product just-in-time, keep projects moving, and respond quickly to customer needs. Working with New Zealand suppliers also allows us to resolve any issues faster and provide a higher level of service for our clients. We are also strong believers in the recycling aspect of these systems, helping reduce environmental impact while lowering the actual functional costs to the customer. This is truly a ‘win-win’ situation for all stakeholders.”
